Fun in Los Angeles: Drag Queen Bingo

by Shaina

Drag Queen Bingo should be at the top of every cumulative list of fun things to do in Los Angeles. I’m constantly researching fun things to do around this city and the fact that I just found out about this event a few weeks ago is astounding to me. First of all, Drag Queen Bingo is the longest running weekly charity event in Los Angeles. This event has been going on since 1998. Its been going on for over 20 years and I found out about it 3 weeks ago! There is something seriously wrong with that. This was one of the most fun nights out with my girls I’ve ever had!

Ok, I’ll stop complaining. Maybe I didn’t know about it before (which is totally heartbreaking) but I know about it now and so do you. You’re welcome. Drag Queen Bingo is located in the heart of West Hollywood at a hamburger joint called Hamburger Mary’s. Its a super lively restaurant full of pizzaz serving up, you guessed it… hamburgers and other fun appetizers and cocktails alike. The restaurant hosts Drag Queen Bingo four nights a week: Tuesday through Thursday at 7pm and Sundays at 6pm.

Each bingo night supports a local charity. It costs 20 dollars to play but all of that money goes to the charity of the night.  Plus 20 dollars gets you 10 rounds of bingo so its really only 2 dollars a game, pretty sweet deal. Bring cash! They don’t take cards when collecting money for bingo. That being said, the restaurant itself will accept card payments for food and drink. Not going to lie, the food is a little pricey. It costs between 14-20 dollars for a burger and fries. Their burgers are bomb but If you’re trying to cut costs, maybe plan to eat before hand and order the giant appetizer platter for the table (only $21) to munch on while you’re playing the game. The appetizer platter consists of chicken fingers, mac & cheese balls, fried pickles, onion rings, and french fries.

The food might be out of your budget but if you’re planning to get your drink on they have a pretty sick deal on alcohol. The restaurant sells a fancy fishnet leg novelty cup that fits about two drinks per leg. The cost of the drink with the cup is 25 dollars, a little less than the cost of two drinks. The real kicker is that you get 50% when you order a refill! It basically becomes a two for one special and you get to keep the cup when you leave. They also offer a select menu of $4 shots. Come here for your birthday with 10 or more of your friends and get a free bottle of champagne!

The Bingo Game itself is hosted by two gorgeous drag queens, Roxy and Roz, and often times a celebrity guest. Sometimes big name celebs such as Anna Nicole Smith, Paris Hilton, and Chaz Bono. There’s also a number of celebrities that frequent these games just to play with friends and family such as Anna Kendrick, Zac Efron, Rachel McAdams, Mila Kunis, Jonah Hill, Etc. Drag Queen Bingo is really a game and a show all in one. Inappropriate behavior is encouraged. The energy is high. The drag queens are constantly cracking sexually explicit and prolific jokes. They even pull out a leather strapped paddle and spank people who call a false bingo. If you win, you have to run around the restaurant as every one cheers “Pelt them! Pelt them! All the way down, and all the way back!” throwing their crumbled up bingo cards at you before claiming a small gift basket at the front of the stage. Totally ridiculous, over the top, fun experience.

My friends and I had such a fun night at Drag Queen Bingo, we plan on going back VERY soon. Now that you’ve read about this awesome experience I’ll probably see some of you guys there too! That being said, there’s one more thing we should talk about before attending and thats parking. Being in Los Angeles your probably thinking its super hard to find parking and thats why we need to talk about it. No, we need to talk about parking because the parking structure across from Hamburger Mary’s came straight out of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. No joke, this is the coolest parking structure I’ve ever seen and it only costs $5 to park there. When you pull up to the structure you’ll see 4 doors with 4 red lights. When one of the lights turn green you pull up to that door. The door will open and let you pull into the spot. After you pull in, get out of the car and pay for your parking pass. After you pay the door will close and the structure will literally park your car for you. When you come back,  insert your ticket, and the structure will bring your car back and turn it 180 degrees so you can pull right out of the garage when you’re ready to leave. Sound confusing? It is but don’t worry theres a parking attendant there to help you along the way.

There you have it! Everything you need to know about Drag Queen Bingo. I hope everyone makes there way down to Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood for this super fun and unique experience. Have a great time and don’t forget to come back, leave a comment, and share your experience!
